MSPS Membership Categories
Licensed Professional Member
Licensed as a Professional Surveyor in the state of Michigan
Associate Member
Must meet one of the following qualifications:
- Approved to write Part I of the Michigan examination.
- Employed not less than 4 years under the supervision of a Professional Surveyor.
- Licensed or registered and in good standing as a professional Surveyor in any state, other than Michigan, or in any province of Canada.
Affiliate Member
Not open to any licensed Professional. Those who work or have an interest in the profession of surveying, that are not eligible for another type of membership.
Sustaining Member
- Is an individual, partnership or corporation which is either engaged in the manufacture or distribution of surveying instruments or equipment.
- Engaged in the compilation or reproduction of maps.
- Engaged in the performance of service for Professional Surveyors. Must be a principal in a firm and a full member of the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors.
Firm Member
Must be a principal in a firm and a full member of the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors.
Student Member
Must be enrolled full time in a course of study leading to a baccalaureate degree in surveying, and have signature of faculty advisor.
Chapters
As of February 1997 chapter membership is a requirement for all members residing in Michigan. MSPS has nine chapters located around the state.
Life Member
Upon application to the Board of Directors any Professional Member who has attained the age of sixty five (65) and has a been a Professional Member for twenty (20) continuous years immediately preceding attainment of age 65, shall be eligible to apply for a life membership into the Society.
