IMPLEMENTING THE USE
OF RECREATIONAL G.P.S. MONUMENTS

GUIDELINES FOR IMPLEMETING THE USE OF RECREATIONAL G.P.S. MONUMENTS

1. The purpose of the recreational G.P.S. project is to promote and publicize the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors throughout the State through the installation and maintenance of monumentation as a service to the public. These monument locations are for the calibration of hand held G.P.S. units, not a control point to be used by surveyors for precision work.

2. Locations for establishment of markers or monuments will be established at the discretion and suggestion of the individual chapters of M.S.P.S.. If so needed, locations can and will also be established by the State Board of M.S.P.S.. Suggested locations for markers or monuments are public locations such as parks, state and local boat launch sites, public walking trails, sporting goods stores and possibly gun clubs.

3. Donations and sponsorship for the establishment of said recreational monuments will be accepted and greatly appreciated. Such contributions or donations will become part of the M.S.P.S. scholarship funds, promoting the development of future land surveyors in the State of Michigan. Acknowledgement to the sponsorship or donation can be so noted by an additional sign at the monument locations.

4. The data to be placed upon the monuments (markers) will be established by the efforts of M.S.P.S. members using their own available G.P.S. equipment. Latitude, Longitude, and Elevation will be established at each location at meter accuracy, only. This data will be displayed.
