As reported in the January, 2009, President’s Report, the MSPS is asking you to contact your State Legislator and the Governor to seek their support in allocating some of the anticipated economic stimulus funds to support the Remonumentation Program funds.
When $15 million was removed from the Remonumentation program in 2006 for support of the budget crisis, language was developed that would replenish some of the funding for the continuation of the Remonumentation effort.
A copy of the letter Bill Karr, P.S., Chippewa County Surveyor, has sent is included for your reference. Review it and put these same thoughts into your own words and email them today. (Karr Letter)
In your letter, which should be mailed to the Governor, and emailed to your Representative and Senator as the addresses posted on the MSPS web page, highlight the fact that (1) the money will be distributed to all 83 counties; (2) it will create jobs immediately; (3) there is an existing State run grant program which can be used for the distribution; (4) allowing distribution to the 83 counties without lengthy delay; and (5) the Remonumentation program benefits every land owner in Michigan.
Finally, let them know we are attempting to help them solve the crisis and given funds from the stimulus program will pay dividends to Michigan’s citizens now and into the future through the same Remonumentation plans developed in 1990.
With the proposed 2009 grant of $5 million already rumored to be decreased to only $4 million, we need your assistance.
Again, here is what you need to do:
1. Mail a hard copy of your letter to the Governor.
2. Email the letter to your Representative and Senator.
